Nuit Blanche—literally White Night, or All Nighter in French—is a nocturnal arts festival with roots in Paris and iterations throughout the word. The concept came to New York for the first time last year in the form of “Bring to Light,” a one-night festival throughout the Greenpoint waterfront filled with site-specific installations of light, sound, performance, projections and other visual delights. It returns on Saturday, starting at 6pm, with contributions from 50 artists. The range of installations spans from Nathan Kensinger’s documentary photographs of the hidden rooms and passages of the Greenpoint Terminal warehouses to the The POEMobile, a DHL-truck-turned-large-scale-projector that transforms the written poetry of 10 local high school students into projected light to Organelle Design and Elliot+Goodman’s pneumatic installation, “Heavy Breathing,” comprised of lungs that inflate, deflate, glow bright and go dim throughout the night.
