This Week: MEN at 285 Kent

By

On Thursday, MEN will play a gig at 285 Kent, presented by feminist group Permanent Wave alongside openers Making Friendz and Claire’s Diary.

MEN started in 2007 following the breakup of Le Tigre. JD Samson and Johanna Fateman started it up as a duo, then combined efforts with Samson’s other project, Hirute. The group now consists of Samson, Michael O’Neill, and Tami Hart, with contributions from Fateman and artist Emily Roysdon.

Their album “Talk About Body” came out early last year, with jumping electro-pop sounds and lyrics that tackle gender, feminism, and other political issues with synth beats and an energetic live show that you won’t want to miss.

Permanent Wave is a group for feminist artists and activists, tackling gender inequality through shows and other events. Thursday’s show will host information tables from Hollaback, Paradigm Shift, Right Rides, and Support New York.

The doors open at 8:30, and the all-ages show is $10 at the door (there are no advance tickets).
