Rockabus Rolls this Weekend

There's nothing better than a piña colada in a foam cup, on the beach.

A few weeks back we brought you word of the Rockabus, the new bus service between Williamsburg and Rockaway Beach. We had hoped that they’d launch in time for Boardrockin’, but they had some bureaucratic hiccups to contend with. This weekend the Rockabus rolls forth, and as an opening weekend special it will be free (prices will go up to $10 one-way, $18 round-trip the following weekend).

Starting at 9:30am, buses leave every 45 minutes from Williamsburg at Metropolitan Avenue and Meeker–under the BQE–and head out to Rockaway Beach, where they will drop riders off at Shore Front Pkwy and 86th Street. That’s basically the boardwalk right at Rippers. Buses will run on the 45 minute schedule throughout the day, with the last bus leaving Rockaway around 6:55pm. The full schedule and further details are available at the Rockabus website.

The weather is supposed to be beautiful, high 70s, very little chance of rain, so you’d be crazy not to hop a free bus to the beach, drink a piña colada in a foam cup at Connolly’s, and enjoy a few tacos or an ice cream float while you watch the surfers.
