Cool Beans

By

As serious and anarchistic as it may sound, Kill the Recipe: A Cookbook and Visual Guidebook on the Basics of Radical Beanmaking and Plant-based Eating is actually a very sweet cookbook. This slim volume of illustrated recipes depicts everything from soaking beans to making bean stews in the reassuring style of the Moosewood Cookbook, and includes some very heartfelt musings on how to change the world by having more fun with rice and beans. (I only wished the print was larger.) Tonight is the book’s release party at Kinfolk Studios, where author and radical beanmaker Mark Andrew Gravel–who Paper Magazine included in their Cool Culinary Kids roundup–will be on hand, along with free Asahi beer till it runs out and a DJ set by Butter Team. (Butter Bean would have been a better name, considering).–N.D.
