Another year drawing to a close—can you believe it? 2012 has been a pretty tumultuous ride, so obviously you’re going to want to shut it down in high style. Once you make it through 12/12/12, the Mayan end of the world, and the rest of this ridiculous holiday season, here are some spectacular ways to say goodbye to all that, brought to you by Brooklyn Spaces. We’ve got some tamer options too.
Unicorn Meat has quickly become known for expansive, multifaceted party experiences, and this might be their biggest yet. The space will be filled with installations representing different cities all over the world, and there will be DJ sets by Moby, Lee Burridge, KiloWatts, Mike Khoury, and more.
Gemini & Scorpio’s Black & White Masked Ball at the Irondale Center, 9pm, $40–$80
The Gemini & Scorpio spectacles keep getting more amazing! This one promises a dizzying array of entertainment: the 13-piece Hot Shim Sham Orchestra, circus techno by Sxip Shirey, Tuvan throat-singing as dubstep beats by Liron Peled, beatboxing by Adam Matta, burlesque by Jo Boobs and Cheeky Lane, aerial feats by Seanna Sharpe and Sara Zepezauer, face and body painting, b&w photo booth, psychics, absinthe cocktails, and surely more. Whew! Black, white, or black-and-white formal wear required; masks strongly preferred.
The fabulously immersive Shanghai Mermaid promises their most “glittering and glamorous New Year’s yet.” The theme of the soiree will be Old Hollywood, and in addition to the huge lovely main space, the secret upstairs loft will be made over as a Hollywood bungalow speakeasy. Performances by Baby Soda Jazz Band, Medianoche doing burlesque, Katrina Cunningham from Company XIV dancing, and more acts to be announced. Themed, dressy vintage, or formal attire required.
BangOn! NYC presents Rebirth at secret Williamsburg warehouse, 9pm, $40 first tier, $50 second tier
Another glorious spectacle: Rebirth will take place in a 30,000-sq-ft warehouse which will include two stages, rides, an Alice-in-Wonderland-themed iridescent playspace, art installations, an inflatable obstacle course, and a 30-fooot reproduction of the Brooklyn Bridge, all accompanied by DJ sets from Yeasayer, Chordashian, Monikkr, Alex English, and more.
