Is there a more satisfying summertime pleasure than an affordable brunch, with drinks included to boot? We think not. Earlier this summer Brooklyn Based brought you our favorite secret brunch spots and the best bar brunches; now it’s time to look at the borough’s best brunch prix fixe deals.
Prospect Heights, 417 Prospect Place (at Grand Avenue); 718-638-1733
This very casual neighborhood bistro tends to get overlooked by brunchers lining up outside Tom’s and checking out trendier new places like Sunshine Co. But it deserves a second look. The never-packed corner restaurant serves a hard-to-beat $12.95 brunch deal from 11am to 4pm. You can opt for breakfast-y brunch (eggs benedict, smoked salmon carpaccio) or lunch-y brunch (cheeseburger, grilled steak panini). Either way it comes with unlimited mimosas AND unlimited coffee.
Clinton Hill, 579 Myrtle Avenue (at Classon Avenue); 718-789-2628
This counter-service eatery offers our favorite brunch option for hungover couples, the two-person “weekender” meal. For $19, you get a table’s worth of food, packed to the brim with two scrambled egg breakfast tacos, three mini quiches, two homemade muffins served fresh out of the oven with spiced apple butter, sweet potato hash, fresh pineapple, bananas foster bread pudding and two freshly-baked cheddar cheese biscuits. These gooey biscuit treats are probably the best part; not your typical cheese-accented floury biscuit, instead, they’re maybe 60 percent cheese and arrive steaming hot, a wonderfully melty mess of orange that will please any grumbling belly. Brooklyn Bird recently secured its liquor license, which means that now all brunch options come with free mimosas.
Fort Greene, 240 Dekalb Avenue (between Vanderbilt and Clermont aves.); 718-399-2020
This 44-year-old Fort Greene mainstay never gets the same amount of buzz as its hipper farm-to-table neighbors, but still manages to reel in a steady crowd of regulars for its Caribbean-soul-food Sunday brunches. Live jazz accompanies specials like southern fried whiting with a side of grits, or simpler options such as blueberry pancakes. All dishes come with one free mimosa, screwdriver or bloody Mary for $12.95; brunch on Sundays only.
Greenpoint/Williamsburg, 45 Richardson Street (between Lorimer St. and Union Ave.); 718-599-1645
This Brazilian bar and restaurant sandwiched between the BQE and McCarren Park serves brunch from 11am to 4pm on the weekends (breakfast starts at 7am during the week; no prix fixe option). For $14.95 you get an entree, plus an espresso drink and your choice of bloody mary (which is excellent), pineapple-mint caipirinha, guava or caju fruit mimosa or passionfruit caipiroska. The food is mainly classic brunch dishes with Brazilian inflection–steak and eggs comes with a side of rice and beans. The build-your-own-omelette (which arrives at the table perfectly fluffy and studded with finely minced herbs) includes options like hearts of palm and prato queijo, a soft Brazilian cheese. Or, go all the way and order feijoada, a hearty smoked meat, black bean and vegetable stew that is the national dish of Brazil.

It might be the most expensive prix fixe on this list, clocking in at $19 per person, but at Lobster Joint in Greenpoint, your brunch comes with a lobster claw bloody mary. In addition, you get coffee and a choice of a fried oyster scramble, lobster rancheros, crab and asparagus omelette, mushroom frittata or a burger. The shady backyard is lined with picnic tables, and is non-smoking, perfect if you prefer your al fresco brunch sans cigarettes. And yes, that bloody mary is every bit as good as it looks. Brunch goes from 11am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, and their 4-7pm happy hour during the week ($16 pitcher of cocktails, $4 lobster, crab or oyster sliders) is pretty killer, too.
