A Literary Feast with Chang-rae Lee

on sucha full seaOf all the books I’ve read so far this year, Chang-rae Lee’s On Such a Full Sea is my favorite–The New York Times also had nothing but love for it. Lee takes today’s socioeconomic stratification to an extreme in this bold new book, and foreshadows a future America that is both disturbing and conceivable.  If you’ve read The Surrendered or Native Speaker, you already know that Lee is an author whose imagination knows no bounds. When he’s not being nominated for major literary prizes or penning thoughtful tales of the immigrant experience, he’s teaching creative writing at Princeton University. You don’t, however, have to enroll in the Ivy Leagues to hear Lee discuss his writing process. Lee will be at BAM on Wednesday night to discusses his work with The New Yorker fiction editor Deborah Treisman as part of Eat, Drink & Be Literary. I attended last month’s dinner and discussion with Jeffrey Euginedes and would do it again in a New York minute. The evening, which includes an open bar, buffet dinner, dessert and coffee service–as well as a reading with time to ask questions–is entirely worth the $55 price tag, so reserve a spot and raise a glass to good food and great writing. –JG
