The world is awash in recipes and restaurant reviews, celebrity chefs and cooking smackdowns, but for substantial discussions about food culture, The Food Book Fair fills a serious niche in the food world. From April 25-27, the fair returns to The Wythe Hotel with creative panels and parties like the Food Book Slam, where our favorite butcher Tom Mylan, author of The Meat Hook Meat Book, and Tanoreen’s Rawia Bishara, author of Olives, Lemon and Za’atar, will read their books alongside other food stars and “battle” each other for the prize of best book at the fair. Pete Meehan of Lucky Peach will moderate a panel with staff from Bon Appetit and Phaidon to discus whether cookbooks are turning into coffee-table art, and Midwestern chefs and authors, including Emily Elsen of Four & Twenty Blackbirds, will talk about food from the Heartland. When planning out the panels you want to attend, make sure to build in time to browse the country’s best “Foodieodicals” on Saturday. There are lots more special events like these, including Brew Pub, where you can sample the hopped-up work of 20 NYC home brewers handpicked by artist Eric Steen. We have a pair of tickets for the second Brew Pub session from 6-9pm to give away. Just email us to enter–we’ll contact a random winner on Monday.
