Runner-up
Neighborhood:Bushwick
Designer: Albert Dobmeier
Designer’s note: My design links three aspects of Bushwick—the old, abandoned and crime-ridden Bushwick, which was known to native New Yorkers as “The Well,” where drug dealers threw shoes over telephone wires to mark a drug trading spot; the current Bushwick, which was transformed by brave people like Maria Hernandez into a hub for Hispanic families, who are very familiar with the dove as a Christian symbol of peace; and the dawning, new Bushwick, [which has been] declared ripe for gentrification by the real estate market, where warehouses are being turned into loft- style residences for the young and hip.
By putting a mourning dove (as seen daily on my fire escape) onto a telephone wire spanning along loft-style windows, I was hoping to create a flag that would inspire unity among the people of Bushwick. Maybe this will help to counteract the adverse effects of gentrification.
these flags all violate the rules of flag design I learned here:
too may colors, too many words, too many tiny graphics

It really would be groovy to at least get to see all of the flag entries. I presently live in Indiana, but my heart is still with my BKLYN borough.
I’d love to see the design for Flatbush! Can we see?
Bayridge should have won .is the prettiest.
I love my neighborhood of Prospect Heights and I truly believe this flag captures its energy and soul. I wish it was available to purchase and so I could fly it. Bravo Erich!
Hi, are these for sale? I would love to get a print of the Bay Ridge flag and give it to my mom for Christmas. Is there anyway I can get in contact with the artist?
Flags? These looks like finalists for greeting cards.
I can see why they didn’t print them.
Whilst all attractive, only the winning flag is anything like a flag.
Surprised so many forgot flags are simple, very simple. Look at Japan’s, Switzerland’s, Canada’s.
