Neighborhood:
Williamsburg

Designer’s note: Williamsburg is rich in history, and with the rapid changes that have infiltrated the neighborhood, it was paramount to us that we honored that in our design. We chose to mix a modern color palate with vintage block typography typical of street signs seen in New York in the early 1900s. We used the idea of a crest to unify the neighborhood under the Latin motto, “Respice, adspice, prospice” which translates to “Examine the past, examine the present, examine the future.” The center of the crest features the Williamsburg bridge, which connects the vibrant neighborhood to the rest of NYC, and a bike, which connects Williamsburg to the rest of Brooklyn. Truly a flag of dualities–light and dark, old and new, we felt that this was the best way to do justice to one of Brooklyn’s most iconic and influential neighborhoods.

It really would be groovy to at least get to see all of the flag entries. I presently live in Indiana, but my heart is still with my BKLYN borough.

I love my neighborhood of Prospect Heights and I truly believe this flag captures its energy and soul. I wish it was available to purchase and so I could fly it. Bravo Erich!

Hi, are these for sale? I would love to get a print of the Bay Ridge flag and give it to my mom for Christmas. Is there anyway I can get in contact with the artist?

I can see why they didn’t print them.

Whilst all attractive, only the winning flag is anything like a flag.

Surprised so many forgot flags are simple, very simple. Look at Japan’s, Switzerland’s, Canada’s.
