On October 16, 2016, experience the wonder of the Brooklyn shoreline at the only half marathon and 5K exclusively held on the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway.
The Brooklyn Greenway Half & 5K, hosted by Brooklyn Greenway Initiative and produced by NYCRUNS will take an anticipated 2,000 runners on a 13.1 mile or 5K journey along the Brooklyn waterfront from Red Hook to Greenpoint. The course offers unique and memorable views of the Manhattan skyline and the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Williamsburg Bridges — winding through Brooklyn Bridge Park and other city, state and industrial parks as well as the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
The Brooklyn Greenway Half & 5K attracts runners from Brooklyn and beyond. The sold-out 2015 event saw 1,250 finishers from Brooklyn and 30 states across the country. This year the event welcomes a large contingency of runners from all abilities and all ages—from first-timers to half-marathon veterans—to join the 4th annual event.
“The views were great and seeing and using new pieces of the greenway were fantastic,” said a past participant. “This was the first time I was able to make a connection between all the neighborhoods along the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, and now I will be able to incorporate this route into my future runs.”
Runners will receive a free tech T-shirt and a wooden finisher’s medallion, and will celebrate their achievement at the finish festival with a delicious spread of food and drinks, a DJ and awards ceremony.
By running The Brooklyn Greenway Half & 5K, participants will be supporting Brooklyn Greenway Initiative, the nonprofit organization committed to the development, establishment and long term stewardship of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. When complete, this 14-mile landscaped route for pedestrians, runners and cyclists will connect neighborhood parks and open spaces from Greenpoint to Bay Ridge.
