This Saturday is our last Immersion of the season with Brooklyn Brewery, and our neighborhood bar and food crawl will be taking us to a lot of great, new(ish) bars in Bed-Stuy. For $15, you can get a Brooklyn beer each at the new Do or Dive, in the old Do or Dive space; Beast of Bourbon, whose BBQ is to die for; Black Swan, one of our favorite Brooklyn pubs; and Chilo’s, another great local bar that serves stellar tacos from its food truck parked out back. You can also add lunch to the deal for a total of $25, and whichever package you choose—the express or lunch option—you’ll get a wad of walking around money to cash in on neighborhood deals like a $4 Brooklyn lager tallboy from Swell Dive, another great new bar along Bedford with surfer vibes and Filipino / Tex-Mex fare. Saturday is going to be a blissful 74 degrees—perfect Brooklyn Oktoberfest drinking weather—so get a ticket here and join us!

bb_immersion-poster-bed-stuy-2016-01 (1)On Saturday, Sept. 24 we’ll be heading to Bed-Stuy (and a bit of Clinton Hill) for our last Immersion of the season with Brooklyn Brewery. If you haven’t yet been on one of our neighborhood beer and food crawls this is going to be a super fun one. And if you’ve joined us before, we’ve lined up some fab new bars for you.

The day starts at noon, and there are two ticket options. You can choose to go “express” and get one free Brooklyn beer at each of these four bars:

  • The brand-new Do or Dive in the old Do or Dine space, run by the proprietors of Williamsburg fave, Luckydog
  • Beast of Bourbon, a massive craft beer and bourbon palace that serves seriously good BBQ
  • Chilo’s, a sweet spot with an excellent taco truck permanently parked out back
  • Black Swan, one of our longtime favorite pubs in the neighborhood

If you want to go all in, you can also add food to four beers with one of these lunches: (more…)

Brooklyn Ice House

From our last Immersion in Red Hook, circa 2013. We’re looking forward to revisiting this backyard.

We’ll take any opportunity to spend a summer afternoon in Red Hook, and Saturday, July 9 we’ve planned a prime one—The Total Red Hook Immersion. The neighborhood is one of our favorites for our day-long celebrations with Brooklyn Brewery, and this Red Hook Immersion will be the best one yet.

The day begins at Brooklyn Crab, where you’ll get the first of four Brooklyn brews when you check in between 1 and 2pm. We’ll also be handing out free swag, like Brooklyn Brewery beach towels and t-shirts, to random early birds. From there you get to choose your own adventure, hitting up Rocky Sullivan’s, Brooklyn Ice House and Botanica for your free beers, plus your choice of lunch at Grindhaus (whose burger tops every best-in-NYC list); Home/Made, Brooklyn Ice House and Rocky Sullivan’s.

All Immersion goers get an envelope stuffed with local deals, too, that include tours of creative spaces like Supersmith and Pioneer Works, discounted beers and tickets from Jalopy Tavern and Jalopy Theatre, and specials at Baked, Kempton & Co, Shook & Co., Foxy + Winston, Red Hook Winery, Shipwrecked Miniature Golf, Chelsea Garden Center and more. And this time, we’ve created an express ticket option — you can either get the four Brooklyn beers plus your choice of lunch for $25 or the beers alone for $15, two supremely good deals. Plus, new Lyft users who enter the code BBIMMERSION or use this link to sign up will get 5 free rides up to $10 each, so you can get to and from Red Hook on the cheap.

Get a ticket and invite your friends to join you. And be sure to RSVP on Facebook where we’ll be announcing all the Immersion deals.

Long Island City, what we like to call the Alaska of Brooklyn, is the next stop in our Immersion series with Brooklyn Brewery on Saturday, June 4. If you’ve been–perhaps on one of our previous Immersions–you know the neighborhood was practically made for bar hopping.

The day begins at LIC Bar at noon, where we’ll be handing out door prizes to attendees who check in before 1pm. You won’t have to travel far for your next pint, as you head from LIC Bar to Gantry Bar & Kitchen to Woodbines to Corner Bistro for your 4 free Brooklyn beers. The restaurants we’ve lined up for your lunch are close and picturesque, too—you can eat in the backyard at L’Inizio, along the waterfront with drop-dead views at Anable Basin Sailing Bar & Grill, or at the new Gantry Bar & Kitchen.

Inside the envelope of “walking around money” we give you to spend in Long Island City, you’ll also find funny money that will get you free gifts and discounts on sliders, souffles and other baked treats, jewelry, vintage finds, snowballs (yes, snowballs), and more goods at places like Sweetleaf, Pink Canary, and the outdoor LIC Flea & Food.

The price for 4 Brooklyn beers, lunch, and the deals below is just $25. Round up your friends–it’s time to spend some quality time together. (more…)

Our Immersion series with Brooklyn Brewery, where we line up four beers, lunch and a ton of neighborhood deals for $25, returns on May 21, and we’ve got quite the day planned for you in Cobble Hill.

But first, we’d like to clarify something. Angry Wade’s, the Smith St. bar that was widely reported to be closing its doors in January, is not shuttering anytime soon. In fact, the bar is one of our Brooklyn beer stops on the Total Cobble Hill Immersion.

Also new this year—we’re giving away door prizes to random Immersion goers who check in at 61 Local between noon and 1pm on Saturday. Yes, this is a coy way of getting your tushes to the Immersion on time. But you could also win some sweet prizes, like brunch for two at Veklsers or a travel gift set from Diptyque.

As you make your way from 61 Local, Angry Wade’s, Buschenschank and Fawkner for your Brooklyn brews, be prepared for some pitstops. This is one of Brooklyn’s best corridors for retail therapy, and we lined up a lot of deals to brighten your wardrobe, stock your fridge, and eat your heart out. Check out the full list below and get a ticket before the Immersion sells out. (more…)

It can take a lot to entice New Yorkers to leave their own neighborhood on a gorgeous weekend afternoon. But our Immersion series with Brooklyn Brewery has done just that for the past six years. Every spring, summer and fall we find four neighborhoods with great bars, restaurants and shops and plan a perfect day out for you and your friends.

Here are the places we’ll be immersing ourselves in this year:

The Total Cobble Hill Immersion, Saturday, May 21
The Total Long Island City Immersion, Saturday, June 4
The Total Red Hook Immersion, Saturday, July 9
The Total Clinton Hill Immersion, Saturday, Sept. 24

Every Immersion goer gets an envelope of “walking around money”—Monopoly-like bills that you can spend that day on four Brooklyn beers and your choice of lunch, for only $25 (which, let’s face it, is less than you’d pay for a boozy brunch). You’ll find a ton of neighborhood deals in your envelope, too.

We’re kicking things off in Cobble Hill, where we’ll be looping around the longtime family-run stores and newer bars, shops and restaurants of Court Street and Smith Street. We’ve been sad to see some of Smith St.’s pioneers forced out by rising rents and to hear of closures even in the midst of planning this Immersion. So consider this a perfect excuse to fill the local businesses with us—and day drink, of course—on Saturday, May 21!

The crawl begins at 61 Local at noon, where your first Brooklyn beer will be waiting for you (and lunch, too, if you like–you pick where you want to eat when you purchase a ticket). We’ll also be awarding prizes, including brunch for two at Vekslers, a travel gift set from Diptyque and a Brooklyn Brewery beach towel, to random ticketholders who arrive before 1pm to pick up their Immersion money.

From there, head to Angry Wade’s, Buschenshank and Fawkner for more beer and food, or eat lunch at Lobo or Red Star instead. Along the way, score as many deals as you can from longtime businesses like Paisanos and Court Street Pastry Shop to new favorites like Van Leeuwen and Shen. (See below for the full list.)

Get a ticket now, and go ahead and secure your spot on all of our 2016 immersions. We’ve got a limited number of “Immersion season passes” for $75—a $25 savings.

20 Total Cobble Hill Immersion deals for $25:
-1 free beer at 61 Local
-1 free beer at Angry Wade’s

On Saturday, July 18, we’re heading south with Brooklyn Brewery for beer-soaked, food-filled tour of Bay Ridge. If you haven’t spent much time in the neighborhood immortalized by Saturday Night Fever, The Total Bay Ridge Immersion is a perfect excuse to check out its eclectic restaurants, waterfront views, and great neighborhood bars—like the four we plan to hit up: Lock Yard, The Wicked Monk, Cebu, and The Kettle Black.

Your Immersion ticket includes a Brooklyn brew at all four spots, plus a packet of local deals and your choice of lunch, all for $25—that’s less than a boozy brunch, and way more fun. There are currently eight food options to choose from: 14-hour pulled pork or a burger on a brioche bun with truffle fries, or a mixed veggie stir-fry over rice from Tie Dye Pig; 2 hot dogs and waffle fries from Lock Yard; 6 wings (any flavor) and fries from The Kettle Black, or a burger, a Reuben or portobello mushroom burger with fries from The Wicked Monk.

Once you purchase a ticket and pick your lunch online, meet us at Lock Yard between 1 and 3pm on the day of the Immersion to collect your envelope of “Walking Around Money.” You’ll use this wad of coupons to cash in your beers, lunch, and deals including 20% off all treats at Robicelli’s. If you’ve never visited them before, now you can finally eat their famous cupcakes right from the source. You’ll also get 20% off any purchase from A.L.C. Italian Grocery, a $3 Brooklyn beer at Tie Dye Pig and at Lonestar Bar & Grill, $25 off a purchase of $50 or more at Consignment Connection, 15% off at Cue Boutique, a complimentary cut with color (good through August) at Bohemian Rose Hair Studio, 20% off your entire regularly priced book purchase at Bookmark Shoppe, 25% off a toy at Kaleidoscope Toy Store, and 20% off all used games and systems at Gotham City Games. During the Immersion you’ll also be able to purchase one of Brokelyn’s South Brooklyn Beer Books, which you can put to use that day.

We’ll be adding more deals, so RSVP on Facebook to stay tuned for updates. And get a ticket now to ensure you get the lunch you want!

If you haven’t already snagged a ticket for our Gowanus Immersion on June 6 with Brooklyn Brewery, where you’ll get four Brooklyn brews and lunch for $25, we’ve got some more juicy details that may sway you.

The early word on beers that’ll be poured at the various bars are: Sorachi Ace at Swan Dive (one of seven new outdoor bars to get your swerve on this summer); Green Market Wheat plus cans of Brooklyn Lager at the Roof at Whole Foods and Summer Ale at Givers and Takers.

We also have a new lunch option between 1 and 3 on Saturday at Runner & Stone. You can choose between a grilled pimento cheddar on their homemade whole wheat pain au lait or grilled gruyere with red wine braised shallots and dijon on rye, with a side of either seasonal slaw or their housemade chips. We have just a few of these tickets available so if this sounds up your alley, you should secure one, stat.

A few more deals have trickled in too, like a large order of any kind of pierogies (except blueberry and chocolate) for the price of a small at Baba’s Pierogies—which we raved about here.

You’ll also get a $22 day pass with gear rental (a $39 value) at Brooklyn Boulders, good till June 13, 20% off all dresses at the 3rd Ave. Calabar Imports, 20% off purchases, excluding custom work, at Twig Terrariams plus 8 more discounts detailed here.

Did we mention you’ll be getting all this for $25?

See you in Gowanus!
