The first battle to take place after the signing of the Declaration of Independence was fought right here in Brooklyn, 237 years ago. The battleground, which is now part of the Green-Wood Cemetery, comes alive every year with re-enactments, a parade, a ceremony and, for $25, a trolley tour of the Green-Wood and Revolutionary War sites. Don’t be a Benedict Arnold, be a part of the action this Sunday and don your best George Washington garb. You’ll fit right in–this only happens once a year! And check out this audio/video tour of The Battle of Brooklyn narrated by John Turturro, for a little more historical context.
