Carnival of Creativity

Bushwick Open Studios, a festival, street fair, and party showcasing the work of thousands of local artists, is back this weekend and celebrating its 6th year with its largest group of shows and events yet. From noon to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday, hundreds of studios and galleries throughout the dynamic artistic communities in Bushwick, East Williamsburg, Bed-Stuy and a bit of Ridgewood, Queens will be opening their doors to the public and allowing visitors to meet with and see the work of participating artists. A searchable listing of all 542 events is available here, and this year there is even an iPhone app to make navigation and planning easier. On Friday, 44 Wilson is hosting the official BOS2012 launch party from 8pm-4am, and it promises to be a wild night featuring live music, comedy, and street art. Other highlights this weekend include Bushwick Basel, in which 11 mainstays of Bushwick’s gallery scene will be curating their own show within Starr Space; the Buswhack series of performance and film at the Bushwick Starr; “Sculpture Garden” at the Historic Onderdonk House, a group show of sculpture co-curated by Deborah Brown of Storefront Bushwick and one of our favorite local artists, whose latest series of paintings, “Freewheeling,” opens at the Active Space during the festival.
