Of all the art fests and open studios around Brooklyn, the Dumbo Arts Festival is the most souped up and tricked out. Take for instance this year’s Superhero installation, in which participants are transformed into a flying projection over the façade of Empire Stores, able to throw light balls and shrink as they wish. If this seems gimmicky to you, there is plenty more to get excited about, like the live iron pour from the Sculptors Guild, or the first public stage performance of all the dancers from the forthcoming doc, Flex is Kings. Even the street performers–like the alien robots you’ll encounter from the collective, Spontaneous Art–are polished pros. And the workshops for kids are all top-notch, especially this year with the Children’s Museum of Art on board and leading stations for bike decorating, stop-motion animation, and more.
