Art on the canal

By

Saturday is the first day of the weekend-long 2019 edition of Gowanus Open Studios, and I’m embarrassed to say that even though I’ve lived in and around the neighborhood for basically a decade, I’ve never actually been to this celebration of more than 400 local artists. It’s a great way to show your support, get to know your neighbors, enjoy some snacks from local establishments (Four & Twenty pie, anyone?), and maybe even acquire some new artwork for your apartment. The artists will be opening their studio doors to the public between noon and 6pm on both Saturday and Sunday—the complete list of participants is here and you can pick up a map to help you get around. Make a day of it with our guide to Gowanus.
