Resistance training, Tarot lessons, and hobnobbing with Bourdain

By

There’s something for everybody happening Thursday, Jan. 18 in Brooklyn, starting with a fundraiser at Kinfolk 94 to support The Broad Room, an activist training camp for women who want to resist, persist and take political action against the right. The group has scored some great speakers for the event, including Cynthia Nixon, and there will be an open bar, live music, and lots of inspiring, motivated new friends to meet. Entry is only $20, and the party runs from 7-9pm.

If you’re feeling a slightly mellower, less pragmatic vibe, consider attending a Tarot Class specifically geared towards supporting and empowering personal and creative growth by reader and teacher Moriah Simmons at Space Ninety 8 from 7-9pm. Tickets are $30, which is well worth it if you can learn some tricks to help you finally get that creative side project going in 2018. (We recently profiled three Tarot artists and their new decks if you plan to get serious.)

Finally, take some of that holiday bonus (uh, yeah, I didn’t get one either) and treat yourself to a night out with the likes of culinary impresarios like Wylie DuFresne, James Shyabout, and . . .
ahem. . .Anthony “Best Job-Haver in the Universe” Bourdain himself at
a double book launch party for Du Fresne’s wd-50: The Cookbook and Shyabour’s Hawker Fare: Stories & Recipes from a Refugee Chef’s Isan Thai & Lao Roots. Tickets are pricey at $100 each, but that includes a copy of each cookbook, as well as a panel presentation, a book signing, drinks by Don Q, and dinner from Fuku, Odd Fellows Ice Cream and Du’s Donuts. If you want to bring a friend who will share the books with you, you can get a second ticket for just $30. The shindig runs from 7:30-10pm at New Lab’s coworking space in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
