Social justice and jazz in Harlem

Hey, it’s December. It’s cold, it’s basically pitch black outside by 4:30pm, and holiday stress may or may not be eating you alive. Why not make this week as full of music as humanely possible? After you swing by Jenny Hval’s Monday evening performance, how about spending Tuesday night in Harlem with bassist William Parker? Parker will premiere a new solo work called “Birth of a New World,” and then join moderator Larry Blumenfeld, dancer and choreographer Patricia Nicholson, Chamber Music America’s Gargi Shindé, and Winter JazzFest’s Brice Rosenbloom, for a conversation on communities, improv, and political action through creative arts. The music starts at 7pm, and there’s a suggested donation of $10.
