Synthpop, dancepunk, freakfunk, or indietronica—however you choose to label London-based band Hot Chip, if you like any portion of the aforementioned categories (or just music that features witty, inventive lyrics over heavy pulsating beats) chances are you’re probably already a fan. Given the wide and various components that comprise the band’s signature style, it’s also probably no surprise that every member is an accomplished, widely-touring DJ. So with Joe Goddard, the deep-voiced vocalist/keyboard/percussionist/counterpoint-cum-teddy bear of the group, pulling DJ duties at Cameo this weekend, you’re pretty much guaranteed the best dance set around. Because if anyone knows their way around a beat, buzz, or loop, it would be this British dude.
