Eat Your Heart Out
Dine in Brooklyn — our scrappy version of Restaurant Week — begins Monday March 24 through the 31st, and while some popular restaurants like Applewood are nearly booked, there are 174 others where you can cash in on the $23, three-course, prix fixe specials, like 68 in Greenpoint, a newish international gastropub; Park Slope’s Palo Santo, where star chef Jaques Gautier (pictured) will simply drop two bucks off his normal $25 Latin fusion prix-fixe menu (limited openings on weeknights); the buzzed-about French-African Korhogo 126, and Mill Basin Kosher Deli, whose pastrami sandwich is said to rival Katz’s. On Thursday at the Brooklyn Brewery, Greenpoint author Scott Gold celebrates the release of his new book, The Shameless Carnivore. His ode to meat documents eating feats like a 31-day carnivorous feast of goat, guinea pig, ostrich and snake, and his book party will be equally ambitious. From 7-10 pm, there will be trivia, live music, slide shows, free D’Artagnan charcuterie, and of course a reading. brooklynbrewery.com
Further proof that meat is the new heirloom tomato, Tom Mylan, the butcher for Diner, Marlow & Sons and Bonita, now offers a Pig Butchering demonstration at The Brooklyn Kitchen. The first class filled up instantly, and there are only 4 spots left in the newly added April 1 session. Attend, and you take home 6-8 pounds of pork. thebrooklynkitchen.com
