At first glance, Johannes Kepler, the bearded 16th-17th century discoverer of laws of planetary motion, doesn’t seem like a likely opera lead. Thankfully, Philip Glass thought otherwise. The US debut of Kepler, the Minimalist composer’s newest opera (sung in German), will be presented in a concert staging at BAM this week. Expect man vs. God, scientific revelation, and feeling really smart by the end.
