Creativity by the Canal

Though perhaps the Gowanus art scene doesn’t get quite as much press as the ones in SoHo or Bushwick, studios there are thriving and have been for years now. Saturday marks the 14th Annual Gowanus Artists Studio Tour, featuring over a hundred artists in nearly thirty studios. Between noon and six, the galleries will throw open their doors for a unique chance to observe the process of creation. Highlights include a rare look into New Clay Studios, a former food-manufacturing warehouse that has been turned into a clay facility complete with kilns; the wide-open space of the Brooklyn Artists Gym, where eight painters and drawers will be showcasing their work; Gowanus Studio Space’s sidewalk papermaking class and group show, “Your Third Eye is a Dictator!” and 440 Gallery‘s group show.
