By

GOWANUS With all the talk recently about Lil Wayne being freed from prison after serving time for weapons possession and T.I. heading back for breaking his probation, it’s particularly sobering to hear the story of Lapiro de Mbanga, a Cameroonian singer imprisoned for criticizing the government. On Tuesday night, as part of the Impossible Music Sessions at Littlefield, Lapiro will be performing a banned song via cell phone from his jail cell, backed up in the venue by Afro-pop collective Lamine Touré and Group Saloum. Following the sure-to-be-heartwrenching performance, the director of Freedom Now, a legal advocacy group working to free Lapiro, will be hosting a discussion panel.
