BROOKLYN HEIGHTS Considering the number of vibrant communities throughout the borough, the diversity of every Brooklynite’s story about how they ended up here is no surprise. On Friday night, several of those stories are highlighted as part of “Brooklyn Roots, Past & Present,” a screening presented by the Brooklyn Film and Arts Festival at the Brooklyn Historical Society. Reaghan Tarbell’s To Brooklyn and Back: A Mohawk Journey tells her family’s personal story against the backdrop of the Mohawk steelworkers who moved to Gowanus to build New York City skyscrapers, and Lea Mathiesen’s The Renovation follows Jim, a Vietnam veteran, as he renovates the Williamsburg house where he was born; other excerpts and short documentaries will also be shown.
