SPONSORED TIP Mark Morris’s The Hard Nut takes the traditional 1890s-era Nutcracker and brings it up to the retro-modern speed of the 1970s. His version, a mashup of the E.T.A. Hoffmann story, Tchaikovsky’s score, and the comic art of Charles Burns, strips all of the saccharine sweetness out of the original, and both parodies and one-ups the holiday classic with his beautiful and irreverent choreography. It opens at BAM Dec. 10 for a total of 8 performances. Tickets are $25-$70, and the show’s appropriate for ages 4 and up.
