Thanks to a friend of mine from grad school, whose life I mostly observe via G-chat status these days, for today’s link. What the Luddites Really Fought Against is a Smithsonian article about the origin of the term–it probably doesn’t mean quite what you think it does. Turns out they were more pro-worker than anti-technology. Who knew? Expect to be corrected the next time you use it in casual conversation. Luckily the widely recognized meaning for “insufferable know-it-all” has not yet been muddled by history.
