Coney Island Curiosities

Indulge your freakish fascination at a ten-day celebration of human oddities at the Congress of Curious Peoples at Sideshows by the Seashore and the Coney Island Museum.  The series of shows, lectures, and symposia kicks off on Friday with an opening night party, featuring music by legendary clarinetist Sol Yaged and the latest inductions into Coney Island’s Sideshow Hall of Fame.  When the honorees are named Jack Dracula, Koo Koo the Bird Girl, and the Cardiff Giant, you can be sure that this won’t be your typical boring award ceremony. The event begins at 8 pm and tickets are $10. Once you whet your appetite for the weird, check out the schedule for the remainder of the conference, which includes sword swallowing and magic by Johnny Fox of the Freakatorium on April 12 and a two-day symposium on April 16 and 17, featuring speakers on a variety of topics such as The Fairground and the Museum: Human Anatomy on Public Display and Science and Technology for Public Amusement.
