New Recruits

By now a few films and documentaries have given us a glimpse of life for Allied troops in Iraq, but not even The Hurt Locker conveys the terror of fighting as viscerally as Black Watch, a multimedia play that has returned to St. Ann’s after sold-out runs in 2007 and 08. The National Theater of Scotland production, based upon real interviews with soldiers in this elite Scottish regiment, is even more heartbreaking with its new, younger cast. And when performed inside the intimate space of St. Ann’s, with its state-of-art sound system, scenes like IED and mortar explosions become frighteningly palpable. Tickets are $55-$90; the show runs through May 7.
