No matter what this dreary weather might lead you to believe, the summer concert season is getting underway, and Brooklyn will be seeing some great shows this year. Assuming we survive the rapture this weekend, we’re in for a good summer.
Celebrate Brooklyn!, which runs from June 10 through August 11, will feature acts like Andrew Bird, Bon Iver, Best Coast, The Decemberists, Animal Collective and Ra Ra Riot. The Northside Festival will have Beirut, Deer Tick (playing as Deervana) and Guided by Voices. The next two Thursdays (May 19 and 26), there are dance parties in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Outside of festivals, the borough will host shows from Thurston Moore, Cults, Against Me!, The Dwarves, and the many, many lesser-known acts that play every night.
In order to hype yourself up, here are some new songs from Beirut and Bon Iver. Beirut, which is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Zach Condon, is putting out a new album this summer. No details have come out yet about a concrete release date or a title, but the group has debuted four new songs at recent live shows. The tracks, “Vagabond,” “Goshen,” “Santa Fe” and “Port of Call” are below:
Bon Iver will also be dropping a new record soon. The self-titled sophomore effort comes out June 21 on Jagjaguwar. The group released the first single, “Calgary” this week:
Beirut plays the Northside festival, which is happening June 17 through 19 in various locations, and Bon Iver plays Celebrate Brooklyn! in Prospect Park on August 10.
