Musical Memoir

By

Music writer Rob Sheffield’s first book, Love is a Mix Tape, was a touching homage to his first wife, framing their courtship, marriage, and her sudden death in songs from mix tapes. His newest memoir, Talking to Girls About Duran Duran, does for the 80s what Love is a Mix Tape did for the 90s, telling his coming-of-age story through recollections of songs like Madonna’s “Crazy For You” and Culture Club’s “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya.” On Monday night, Sheffield will be appearing at BookCourt to read from the book and discuss life in a decade that anyone can be nostalgic for, regardless of age.
