The East River Ferry goes full service on Monday and it’s free for the first 2 weeks before tickets go up to $4 for one-way trips or $12 for day passes–a small price to pay for a waterfront shortcut. Stops include Pier 11/Wall St., Brooklyn Bridge Park in Dumbo, N. 6th St in Williamsburg, India St in Greenpoint, and Long Island City, so you could catch the ferry to concerts in East River State Park this summer, check out Smorgasburg on Saturdays, New Amersterdam Market or the Brooklyn Flea on Sundays, Pier 1 on Tuesday nights for free pilates, and starting in July, Movies with a View on Thursdays and PS 1’s Warm Ups on Saturdays. The boats all have bike racks, and if you don’t have wheels, you can rent bikes at Pier 1 from the same company that rents them on Governors Island, which the East River Ferry will stop at on summer weekends, leaving from Pier 6 in Dumbo on Fridays. Sounds like the makings of an excellent summer Friday. The full ferry schedule is here.
