Tonight, Tonight

On Thursday night, West Side Story gets the singalong treatment at Celebrate Brooklyn. The classic retelling of Romeo and Juliet features a number of songs tailor-made for crooning in a crowd, from sentimental songs like “Somewhere” and “Tonight” to the saucier “Gee Officer Krupke” and “America.” To add to the participatory fun, Officer Krupke himself (in the guise of choreographer Lawrence Goldhuber) will be teaching some of the dance moves. With lyrics up on the screen and the pre-film dance lesson, there’s only one thing you’ll need to do in advance of the screening: decide if you’re more of a Jet or a Shark. Jets will be entering the park at 9th Street whereas Sharks should show up to the 11th Street entrance.
