Governors Island is open one more month, and this Saturday from noon to 5, sports innovators RECESS are offering a good excuse to take the free ferry ride over. At their annual bocce competition, 3 of their 11 lawn courts at Colonel’s Row will be open for free public play, and more will open up as the day goes on (the rest will accommodate 32 teams from companies and sites like Cool Hunting and Ogilvy). Bystanders can indulge in smoked brisket sandwiches from Lonestar Empire, a beer garden with plenty of Tiger Ale and Brooklyn Brewery beer, and Je & Jo cookie dough ice cream (all cash only). The ferry schedule is here. Make a day of it and bike around and see all the ongoing exhibits and markets before the summer ends.
