However you feel about the big changes going on at Coney Island, we can all agree that Coney Island back in the day had a special and powerful charm. Pay homage to the historic nabe at Sunday’s first annual History Day, put together by the Coney Island History Project and Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park. As part of the event, the Coney Island Hall of Fame class of 2011 will be inducted at 1pm. If you’re looking for your chance to make it there someday, share your romantic stories of Coney Island at the recording studio for the Coney Island History Project’s Oral History Project; if you’d rather show off your knowledge, enter the Coney Island Trivia Contest run by Coney Island historian Charles Denson for the chance to win passes for the Wonder Wheel Park. The day will be livened up by performances from acts like the Hungry March Band, the Hot Sardines, and the Banjo Rascals, taking place at the Wonder Wheel, the History Project, and throughout the park, as well as the chance to get commemorative nostalgic swag for riding the Wonder Wheel.
