Talk Hard

Red Hook’s Valentino Pier is one of the best spots in the city to catch a free outdoor movie in the summer, with stunning views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. Take advantage of the great location at one of the last screenings on the pier, taking place this Tuesday night. The ’90s high school drama Pump Up the Volume, starring Christian Slater, is on tap for this week; the film tackles issues of free speech, misunderstood teenagers, pirate radio, and more as it tells the story of Slater’s character Mark Hunter and his rabble-rousing radio DJ alter ego Hard Harry. As usual for the Red Hook Summer Movies, Home/Made will be selling popcorn for $1; this week only, local favorite Fort Defiance will also be selling food.
