BB Essay Contest: Holiday Rituals

By

For our second essay contest, we’ve chosen a seasonally appropriate theme–holiday rituals. You can use the theme broadly as a backdrop (for example, questioning why holiday office parties exist while recounting a particularly cringe-worthy moment from one). Or, get specific and tell the world about your family’s strange, Festivus-like holiday ritual, your newly adopted rituals as an adult (and perhaps parent), or your total rejection of holiday behavior. Submissions should be between 1500 and 1700 words, and sent to essays@brooklynbased.com by November 7. Please attach a Word-compatible document and paste the text into the body of the email.

We’ll publish the winning essay on the site, and reward the writer with a $100 gift certificate from the excellent WORD bookstore in Greenpoint.
