Keep It Short

Franklin Park is rapidly becoming one of our fave non-traditional reading venues. The cozy Crown Heights bar brings a boozy-yet-neighborly atmosphere to its monthly reading series, held on the second Monday of the month. Last month, they brought The Magicians‘ Lev Grossman and Busy Monsters‘ William Giraldi in for a Monster Bash-themed reading; other boldfaced names who have graced the podium include Colson Whitehead, Teju Cole, and Karen Russell. This month marks their third annual Short Fiction night. Sam Lipsyte, author of The Ask, and Gary Lutz, author of Divorcer, headline, but we’d also keep an eye on the three up-and-comers joining them — the curator is ace at finding the best and the brightest. The first fifty attendees will receive free copies of the lit mag The Coffin Factory, and there will also be drink specials running all night long.
