Now that winter’s starting to feel, well, properly wintry, it’s time to start holing up and doing some of our favorite cold-weather activities. The Sunday movie night at Cafe Steinhof combines several of our faves — warm, heavy, filling Austrian specialties like goulash and spaetzle, the spicy mulled wine known as gluhwein, and classic flicks on a big screen. This week, they’ll be screening Herzog’s 1999 film My Best Fiend, which chronicles his complicated relationship with Klaus Kinski. Kinski, who worked on films like Nosferatu the Vampyre; Aguirre, the Wrath of God; and Fitzcarraldo with the legendary German director, was notoriously difficult; Herzog’s film is a complete and compassionate portrait of the actor and of their tumultuous friendship.
