Building a Better Dive Bar

By

Dive bars. San Francisco has them in glorious droves. They’re cheap and plentiful and full of character and characters. And, there’s always a good mix of people in them–it’s not all young gentrifiers bellied up to the bar. Though they’re all over the city, some of the most spectacular dives are in Chinatown, like the Bow Bow Room, which is also a karaoke bar. The regulars are really good, and sing in both Chinese and English. This gentleman above sat at the bar just nailing song after song. If you look closely you’ll notice that video that goes along with the karaoke version of “My Way” is of mimes, frolicking on the boardwalk at Coney Island.

Just say no if offered Chinese whiskey. Oh, and everywhere is cash only.
