Hootin’ and Hollerin’

If you didn’t get tickets to the sold-out dual-venue celebration of Johnny Cash’s 80th birthday last week, we might have something to lift your spirits. On offer: Freddy’s Bar‘s  CasHank Hootenanny Jamboree, a critically-lauded shindig where everyone (and they mean EVERYONE) is invited to play country songs from before 1970. Songs written by Johnny Cash and Hank Williams are the star of the night (hence the name), but the only real rule is that whatever’s played has to be four chords or fewer, which means players, pluckers, and tambourine shakers of all levels can jump in on the fun, whether from the safety of their seats in the audience or up on stage, duking it out with host Alex Battles.
