If you’re into fixies, races, or only-in-Brooklyn traditions, make sure to head to Red Hook this Saturday night for the Red Hook Criterium. In its fourth year, the fixed-gear, unsanctioned, generally badass race through the streets of Red Hook has graduated from its origins as a birthday race for local resident David Trimble to an international phenomenon that even has its own eponymous drink. Registration is already full for the bike race, but there’s still space available for the Red Hook Crit Run, a 5K race that’s making its debut in the US after a successful trial run in the RHC Milano; in any case, spectators and well-wishers are encouraged to line the roads and cheer on the racers. The main event starts at 9pm, and, for those who’d like to raise a glass to the competitors, an afterparty is planned for 10:30pm, at The Bell House.
