Before Haring Was Red Hot

In Keith Haring: 1978-1982, the Brooklyn Museum has gathered hundreds of works on paper, archival objects including sketchbooks and subway drawings, videos and documentary photos to present the first-ever in-depth look at the origins of this popular American artist. “Each work has its own charm, and one walks away with an intimate understanding of the personality that flowed beneath his trademark iconography,” writes Sara Christoph on our blog. The look back at his early career is taking place online, too. Throughout the exhibition, which opened last week and runs through July 8, the Keith Haring Foundation is also posting a page a day from his journals on Tumblr.
