Deep, Dark Love

By

Two British novelists are exploring the not-so-bright-and-shiny aspects of love at Greenpoint’s WORD bookstore, in a program called The Vagaries of Love. Writer Jill Dawson performs a masterful turn, weaving nonfiction and fiction together in her novel The Great Lover, which captures the devastation that WWI poet Rupert Brooke’s amorous advances wreaked on his conquests, while Louise Doughty explores the desperation that occurs both when her protagonist’s daughter is killed, and in remembering the father who made her in Whatever You Love. The event is free, except for the cost of tissues you might need to bring.
