This Saturday night, do yourself a favor and head to Union Pool for one of those awesome small room/great band kind of nights. Just recently returned from their trip to SXSW, Freshkills (featuring the Tip Sheet’s very own Jay Honstetter!) will be bringing their unique brand of catchy post-punk–you know, the kind of music that half of Brooklyn wishes they were putting out–back home. (If you need any more convincing, pick up a digital copy of their album, Raise Up The Sheets, for just $5 on Amazon.) They’ll be opening for scene legend Grant Hart of Hüsker Dü, whose hardcore/alt rock helped define the cooler side of 80s music.
