Plan Ahead: May Food + Music Madness

By

We are just days away from May, when an insane amount of events will vie for your attention and spare cash. Next weekend, you can choose between the Crossing Brooklyn Ferry festival (tickets are still available for The Walkmen and St. Vincent); the Red Hook Lobster Pound’s Cinco de Mayo Fiesta at DeKalb Market ($30 gets you a whole Maine Lobster, picante potato salad, Mexican corn, and jicama coleslaw), and the Food Book Fair (we have tickets to give away for this! Read more here). On May 12, our Immersion series continues in Red Hook (save the date!), and on May 19 and 20 the Great Googa Mooga descends on Prospect Park. They just announced their musical guests–Hall and Oates! Yacht rockers rejoice!–and its $250 “Extra Mooga” ticket option, which gets you all-inclusive food and drink at over-the-top events like the Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken Party. Also the weekend of the 19th is Jalopy Theater’s Brooklyn Folk Festival, which has grown so big it’s being held in Downtown Brooklyn this year. Is neither your speed? The first Brooklyn Lit Crawl–a free day of readings at bars and bookstores–happens on May 19.
