Vote for Your Fave Landmark and Win

By

Brown Memorial Baptist Church, which is competing for funds to repair its Tiffany windows

By now you’ve probably noticed that we’ve been encouraging you to vote for the NYC landmarks you love–because your votes will help divvy up the $3 million dollars that 40 sites across the city need to make much needed repairs and improvements.

Now there’s another incentive to vote once a day until May 21st: $50 on an American Express gift card. You can win one by just:

  • going to Partners in Preservation site
  • voting for your favorite landmark up to one time per day (it takes 5 seconds via Facebook)
  • telling us who you voted for in the comments below each time you do

Voting once a day is good for the preservation competition, and good for your chances of winning. We’ll announce the 5 random winners from the comments this Friday, March 18 at 5pm. That’s 5 whole days to cast 5 votes and write 5 comments for a chance to win free money and help out landmarks across the city.

PS: We are being paid to write about local landmarks and the Partners in Preservation competition–which is pretty sweet considering we cover a ton of Brooklyn history anyway. So far we’ve written about the Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Library (currently #1 in the race for funds) and the Greenpoint Manufacturing and Design Center, and this week we’ll be writing about Weeksville and Brown Memorial Baptist Church. There are 5 other landmarks in Brooklyn to vote for–check them all out here.

FULL Disclosure: BB partnered up with Partners in Preservation to spread the word about its preservation campaign for 40 landmarks around NYC, and in particular the sites in Brooklyn. We are getting paid to blog about the campaign (which is sweet for us since we like to write about historic Brooklyn anyway) but we haven’t been told to express a particular point of view. The opinions expressed here are strictly our own.

Voted for Congregation Beth Elohim (CBE).  This is a Park Slope landmark that has fallen into disrepair.  Being able to help it get the much-needed repairs is a mitzvah!

Gateway National Recreation Area C-47 Skytrain! The vintage planes in these old hangars are truly incredible and the volunteers working on them (some of which used to fly these babies back in the 50s) are more than happy to show you around.

I’ve been voting for the National Museum of the American Indian so more children can learn about our country’s wonderful indigenous cultures from a young age! I’m part native and didn’t get to learn much about my history as a kid. I would love to help other’s receive a great opportunity. 🙂

Today I decided to vote for one of the underdogs:  Tug Pegasus & Waterfront Museum Barge in Brooklyn.  I’m a Pisces, so us fish like anything related to the water, so this historical piece of maritime history deserves a vote.

I just voted for Brown Memorial, because I was stunned by the photo I just saw of the restored sanctuary. What a treasure!
