Focus, Photographers

The New York Photo Festival runs tonight through Sunday, and if you are an amateur or pro photographer or budding collector, it’s well worth the $15 tickets that get you into tonight’s opening reception with DJ Spooky (also a photographer and co-curator of the festival), panel discussions with curators and artists, and $45 worth of swag like free food, drinks, and goods. Just a casual fan? That’s fine, all the special exhibitions and satellite shows at local galleries are free. Be sure to check out the Alaska Quarterly Review exhibition at VII Gallery, Liberty and Justice (for All), a group show of 68 leading photojournalists that is also a tribute to war photographer Chris Hondros and photojournalist/director Tim Hetherington (Restrepo), who were killed by mortar shells while covering the Libyan civil war last year.
