When the living dead begin to walk the streets and shouts of “BRAINS BRAINS BRAINS!” is all you hear for miles, it can only mean one thing–the NYC Zombie Crawl. This year’s crawl starts with a bang, as you can take your pick of venue: Trash Bar, for meet- and make-up (become a zombie and mingle with fellow zombies); or across the street at Grand Victory, for a free performance by Misfits cover band Skeletal Life. At 6pm the crawl down Bedford Avenue to McCarren Park begins and the usual contests, raffles and giveaways will happen. At 7pm, crawl back over to Spike Hill for a free metal show put on by Nassau Chainsaw and Disgraceland Demolition Committee. And if you still haven’t had your fill of brains yet, get on over to Public Assembly for the afterparty at 8:30pm–live music from Bikini Carwash and Fucking Bullshit, burlesque by the Rigor Mortis Revue and, at midnight, Strip For Pain with the girls of Burning Angel. There will also be a late night “Hot Zombie” contest with prizes for the hottest (and coolest) zombie costumes. Look out for drink specials all day from Pabst Blue Ribbon and Sailor Jerry Rum.
