Brooklyn’s All Day Party For Pride

By

Following Obama’s recent endorsement of same-sex marriage, and North Carolina’s backward-looking ban, this year’s Brooklyn Pride Celebration couldn’t come at a better time. It kicks off to a healthy start this Saturday with a 5k run at 9am at Bartel-Pritchard Square (registration at 8am). After getting your morning exercise, head on over to Prospect Park West between 9th and 15th Streets at noon for a multicultural festival featuring shopping, food and live performances. There will also be a kids space with puppet-making workshops, storytime, book-making and a sing-a-song. After the festivities, take a short breather with the Pride Happy Hour at participating bars restaurants along Fifth Ave. Then, be ready at 7:30pm for the first nighttime parade in the Northeast, which will make its way down 5th Ave from 14th Street to Sterling Place. Still not tuckered out after the parade?  Good, continue celebrating at the LAID BK PRIDE queer dance party at the Bell House with DJs Nasty Esq, Roze-Royze and Noa D. Or hit up the after-parade party at Lowlands where you can relax in their amazing garden, eat a panini, and drink a few beers or cocktails. Or do both—after all, you’re gonna pass Lowlands on your walk over to the Bell House from 5th Ave. Your Sunday hangover is, for once, going to one to take pride in!

Let’s get real: Obama’s “evolved” opinion on marriage is nothing to celebrate. If anything, it’s politics that prevented him to “evolve” and promote what’s right for all Americans.
