Tonight: Ad-Rock DJs for Pussy Riot Legal Defense

By

Tonight Beastie Boy Ad-Rock will give his first performance since bandmate MCA’s death last month. He’ll be DJing at a benefit for the Pussy Riot legal defense fund put on by feminist group Permanent Wave.

Suspected members of the Russian feminist punk collective Pussy Riot are in jail facing charges of “hooliganism” following a demonstration earlier this year known as the “punk prayer.” The women, Maria Alekhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Ekaterina Samucevich, face up to seven years in prison for their alleged participation in the protest, also known as “Virgin Mary, Send Putin Away,” which called for human rights awareness and an end to the Putin regime.

Tonight’s show is one of many actions that have happened all over the world in support of Pussy Riot. Ad-Rock will play a special DJ set, and there will be live shows from Heliotropes, Shady Hawkins and TinVulva. It’s a sliding scale with a minimum of $7 to get in. Doors are at 8, and the show is at Death by Audio (49 S. 2nd Street at Kent Avenue).
